Buster Keaton Short Films and Film Form

Before discussing film form in relation to Buster Keaton's short films, it may be useful to re-read the post on film form from the A Level Film Studies Blog, to refresh your memory about the different areas of film form and how to discuss them in an essay.

Questions in the exam may ask you to discuss Keaton's short films in relation to individual aspects of film form, such as cinematography or mise-en-scene, OR more broadly about film form in general and the ways it has been used to create meaning or develop themes and/or ideas. You would also want to discuss various aspects of film form in questions about aesthetics, representation and critical debates on the realist and the expressive. It is therefore essential that you can make generalisations about the use of film form in the films BUT also discuss specific scenes in greater detail.
